What I shared at the University of Westminster about building for people
March 23, 2025
Every time I tell people we’re using games to help kids learn better, their eyes light up.
“So, they’re actually excited to learn now?”
Yes. That’s exactly what’s happening at Afrilearn.
Yesterday at the University of Westminster, I had the joy of speaking at the ParayTech Summit on how we’re we’re helping children across and beyond Africa fall in love with learning again.
I shared how gamification isn’t a cliche, it’s helping children across primary and secondary school stay engaged, stay curious, and actually love learning. We’re not just building an app, we’re building joy into a personalised learning experience.
And more importantly, one thing I’ve learned as a founder, your first job isn’t to build the product. It’s to deeply understand the people you’re building for.
Before writing a single line of code, make friends with your users. Talk to them. Listen. Build a truly organic community and let them shape what you create. You’ll be very glad you did.
Lovely connecting with everyone in the room full of bright minds yesterday, and kudos to the team.
Let’s keep building for people. Let’s keep solving real problems. Let’s stay human.
It is possible.
